Yes and No. As you may have read, I'm not only a freelance technical writer; instead, I am an active Internet marketing and Web development practitioner. Therefore, most of my freelance technical writing services naturally fall into those areas. However, I have been known to work outside of my specialty areas.

Interestingly, I also have 13 years' experience as a medical transcriptionist. So, whenever I have the opportunity, I absolutely enjoy putting my technical writing skills to the test with a medical writing assignment.  As a matter of fact, I will be pursing a Master of Science in Technical Communication with a concentration in Biomedical Writing in the very near future.

While I prefer to stay in my areas of interest--Internet marketing, Web/Software Development and Medical Writing--I do, however, enjoy learning new things. My rates are appropriately priced for my skill level, experience and the quality of the service that I provide. However, I NEVER charge an hourly rate. Instead, I find it in the best interest of my client to charge a per-project fee. That way, my client knows up front how much the project will cost.

For most projects, in order to initiate a project, I require 50% of the technical writing project fee upfront and 50% due prior to delivery of the completed project. Your project will not be delivered until final payment has been made. 

There are exceptions, however. Really small projects, for instance, may require complete payment in full, while more complex projects (with many deliverables) may necessitate a different billing arrangement.
